Florida Blue Centipede

Hemiscolopendra marginata

Description:

Found scurrying across the floor in my basement. I'm the only person who saw it and didn't go "ew!"

Habitat:

Basement, rural deciduous area, Clermont County

Notes:

Fun fact: While centipedes can bite humans, they only do so defensively as a last resort. These are actually beneficial housemates, as they eat more destructive household pests and generally keep to themselves and away from your bed and clothes. They do not have a taste for human flesh.
