Little Blue Heron

Description:

Little Blue Herons stalk shallow waters for small fish and amphibians, and also supplement their diet with invertebrates like crustaceans and dragonflies. "Little Blue Herons often forage with other species, and they are gregarious breeders, nesting in multispecies colonies."

Habitat:

Shallow, artificial marsh @ Orlando Wetlands Park

Notes:

"1,220 acres wetland treatment system... Seventeen cells and three different communities were designed to remove excess nutrients from the water. More than 2 million aquatic plants and 200,000 trees were planted to create deep marsh, mixed marsh and hardwood swamp habitats."
