Back of moth mimics a familiar face--the pet dog of my niece. That was also the impression of this moth to my young niece. The brown short fur and long ears were strikingly similar.
Rural residential places. Tropics.
Image at the back of the moth looked like the face of the daschund pet of my niece. Her favorite. Brown shiny short fur. Long ears and button-like eyes. She was thrilled when I showed her the picture of the moth.
Hi Alma! We'd love to have this moth spotting on the mission "Moths in the Philippines" at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1591... . Please join the mission. Thanks!
Wow, I'm envious! :) I've reared D. nerii, but have not seen D. hypothous in person.
@Agnes- Thanks loads - i think that ive also reared a few of these and mistakenly ID'd them as D.neri =)
@Sachindra, yes it is! :) Here's another one, the equivalent Southeast Asia link. - http://www.sphin-sea.unibas.ch/SphinSEA/...
Yep , i think you are right =) =) i thought that it was the lighting that made it seem darkish on the pic =) Great link too =)
I think it's the Daphnis hypothous - http://www.flickr.com/photos/lereeves/66...
Very like a dark D. nerii, but distinguished by a white spot at the forewing apex. -
