ceherzog,
As I thought this was a large snake, it has been brought up that it is most likely a large glass lizard, after looking at pictures, I would have to agree, either way, I am very excited to have witnessed this.

Maria db,
Yes, if you look at a couple of the other postings I have of her feeding, you can see her feeding a small regurgitated mammal of some sort.

Congratulations on your SOTD! Does the mother eat and then regurgitate prey for the young owlets?

ceherzog,
Appeared to be a large garter snake, when I first noticed her with it and did not have camera with me, the snake was only about 25% consumed and still alive and writhing in her beak, these pictures were what I captured after I first noticed her with it and had to run inside and grab camera.

BTW...do you know what kind of snake that is?

Wonderful series! Owls are sooo expressive. They look like they don't really want to eat that snake, but if Mom insists……
Congratulations James!

ceherzog,
Thank you, and yes the nest was literally 60 feet from my front window, I have over 2000 pictures of them, unfortunately with the easy access and the heavy traffic of photographers, the Owls have not returned to this nest this year.....
I have a nesting pair of Bald Eagles about 5 miles from me, They will be my winter focus this year with no Owls around

Hi James...glad to see you here on Project Noah since we're from the same area. I looked back over your shots of the Great Horned Owls..and you photography just gets better & better. I'm guessing the nest is near your home. This is a wonderful series.
