Spotting

Description:

The smallest bug I've ever taken a photo of. This fella was standing on a tiny blade of grass, and only caught my eye through the viewfinder using my reversed lens. He let me get so close and so many pictures; funny as these bugs are normally terrified by anyone moving around them.

It's a leafhopper of sorts.

This is a leafhopper (family Cicadellidae)...note the heavy spines on the hind legs!

I think it's a cicada

I personally think it's a plant hopper, but it was too tiny to properly ID for me as well.

I preset my aperture by using holding the depth of field button while taking the lens off; it doesn't let me change it as I shoot, but I tend to stay within an average aperture of 11 either way. Neat trick in my opinion.

Very nice photograph, I don't even know where to begin in trying to id this guy. He looks a little like a small cicada.

Ah the reverse lens trick. The only thing I don't like about doing this is Digital Lenses have an electronically controlled aperture, so you're stuck using them wide open. You could always buy an older film lens that has manual aperture control to remedy this. There are some really inexpensive options on ebay and what not. Plus if you buy a m42 (or other) to your digital camera make adapter (for Canon, EOS) you can mount it to the front of the film lens which means no more hand holding the lens in front of the camera.
