Description:

Roughly 35-40 millimeters in body length, matte black in color with no blue iridescent reflections. Orange wings as shown.

Habitat:

Nectaring on a lone, blooming saltcedar tree (Tamarix sp.) in a vast, degraded shortgrass prairie habitat with yucca, sunflower, and scattered elm trees.

Notes:

Hemipepsis is a spring/fall genus, replaced by Pepsis during the summer months.
