Carpenter Bee

Xylocopa sp.

Description:

The only time I have seen an olive-green colored carpenter bee; usually it's all black or yellow-banded black that we have in our garden. The Carpenter Bees (Apidae; Xylocopinae; Xylocopini) are so-called because they nest in burrows in dead wood, bamboo, or structural timbers. They are easily recognized by their large size and robust form; the wings are often brilliantly iridescent.

Habitat:

Backyard.
