Reddish Egret

Egretta rufescens

Description:

The Reddish Egret stalks its prey visually in shallow water, using the shadow of its wings to reduce glare on the water once it is in position to spear a fish. You can see this hunting behavior in my photos. The area was full of birds. In most of the photos you can also see a tricolored heron.

Habitat:

I believe this area was saltwater. Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

You're welcome! There are some great places to see them in the Orlando area like Orlando Wetlands Park and this one, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
