Lagopus muta hyperborea
The Svalbard rock ptarmigan is a subspecies of ptarmigan and is only found on this island. Here seen is the male that is white year round. The females molt between the summer and winter season from mottled brown to snow white.
Arctic tundra, endemic to Spitsbergen.
For any wildlife enthusiast I would strongly recommend Spitsbergen. The animals and birds are really easy to approach making them great to photograph.
