Rattle snake

(Crotalus oreganus)

Description:

I saw this baby rattle snake on a evening hike in Mitchell canyon. It was hardly one week old. The second pic shows it flicking it's tongue. Just a 100 yards away I saw another baby rattler in the leaf litter. It could very well be the sibling and there could be mama around with more babies.

Hi again Hema. I see the list of California rattlesnakes I was using was incomplete. I believe the Pacific rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus) fits better.
