Purple-spored Puffball

Calvatia cyathiformis

Description:

You can see the purple-brown spores in the first photo. Unlike some puffballs that have a little opening at the top to release spores, these break apart to release them. The second photo shows a very mature one before releasing its spores. You can see a photo of the fresh one I spotted the week before here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/597...

Habitat:

Grassy area at a transfer site
