Also the mask on the Loggerhead is fuller and bill is all black.

Here is an excellent reference that explains the ID markers to look for in both adult and juvenile Loggerhead and Northern Shrikes. http://www.ofo.ca/site/page/view/article...
If you look at the mask drawings you will yours has the Loggerhead mask, goes thinly above the bill.

No. The Reserve is not on the shore, there is the beach and the road separating the Reserve from the shore.

Yes it is Jemma, at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, definitely a hotspot to watch birds!

Is this near Huntington beach . i was wondering if you know of any wild life refuges or tide pools,in/or Huntington beach. Might visit.
