Wire grass

Aristida stricta

This warm-season grass dominates understory vegetation in sandhills and flatwoods coastal plain ecosystems of the Southeastern United States. Research has shown that after fires, it flowers and fruits more vigorously. It is known as wire grass (due to its texture) and pineland three-awn grass.
