Description:

About 15-18 millimeters + in body length, colored as shown. Large species for the genus.

Habitat:

Several of these wasps were sipping nectar from a lone, blooming saltcedar tree (Tamarix sp.) in a vast open field of heavily degraded shortgrass prairie with sunflower, yucca, prickly-pear cacti, and scattered elm trees.
