Spotted Jewelweed

Impatiens capensis

Description:

Medium to large sized bushy plant. Oval shaped leaves with some toothing. Orange flowers with darker speckling. Unique shape to blooms.

Habitat:

Bayard Cutting Arboretum, Islip, New York. Semi cultivated area.

Notes:

Young shoots and leaves are edible after boiling but contain large amounts of calcium oxalate so it is not recommended to ingest large amounts of it. Traditional medicinal uses for the plant as well.
