White-necked Jacobin

Florisuga mellivora

Description:

An adult male of White-necked Jacobin, a mid-size to large hummingbird. Inhabitant of the Central and South america tropical forests. Has a big sexual dimorphism, females are more discrete than males.

Habitat:

Tropical forest, specially in the lowlands.

Notes:

This male was captured during a banding session in the Tortuguero National Park, in Costa Rica. Was usual to meet a pair of them in the same net, I guess that it happens because of their territorial behavior that makes that a male attacks another male when see in the net.
