Giant leopard moth (larva)

Hypercompe scribonia

Description:

Very woolly, black, spiny haired caterpillar. He was eating the grass in front of our house in Pensacola, Florida. Not knowing if it was a butterfly to be, I moved it to a safe spot under the bushes where it could continue to eat and not get tromped on by feet.
