A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Anolis conspersus conspersus
Males are bright turquoise-green with pale spots all over, especially while breeding. Considered a chameleon and can turn dark brown, beige, pale gray to blend in with surroundings. Characteristic blue throat fan - I was unable to get a shot with the fan. Darn! Females are duller in color. Sometimes they have chevron markings on their backs (see second picture - eating caterpillar!) , but the true marking of a female is a yellow stripe at the base of their forelimbs. Males are very territorial, yet juveniles have the same markings as females in order to be permitted into a male's territory.
Endemic to Cayman Islands Arboreal - commonly seen climbing trees
Saw around 10-15 of these guys while walking the Mastic Trail in Cayman. Pictured on Red Birch tree.
