Mule deer

Odocoileus hemionus

Description:

Black tipped tails, large ears and antlers which fork and sweep outward differentiate the mule deer from a white tail. They also have a distinctive black mask or forehead and are often larger than white tails. Have you ever seen a muley stott (all four hooves pushing off at the same time)?

Habitat:

Mule deer live in the western American continent from Alaska to Mexico.

Notes:

Biologists estimate a mule deer has 1000x stronger sense of smell than a human. They can smell a human a half mile away and find water 2 feet underground!
