eastern pondhawk (male)

Erythemis simplicicollis

Description:

I'm calling this a male eastern pondhawk (because of uncertainty over the color of the wings exhibited in this specimen). The sexes are dimorphic, with the female being primarily green.

Habitat:

Near tiny scum-covered pond along concrete path at Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, Kansas.

Notes:

Map marker is not precise.
