Blackbelly Triggerfish

Rhinecanthus verrucosus

Description:

This triggerfish can usually be found in the more shallow parts of the reef. I usually see them in no more than 5m of water. This individual was about 20cm long and can be territorial, especially during mating season. I was able to get quite close to this one while snorkelling by staying completely still and holding my breath while the current slowly took me closer. It just watched me rather than darting away.

Habitat:

Coral Reef. Snorkelling at Puerto Galera.
