My thought being that it seems odd to have two very similar moths(and my thoughts upon seeing them were, "are they different morphs of the same) on the same night less than 3 feet apart that were different species?
I am still tending to Iridopsis sp., but I must agree it is a very tricky one and I am really not 100% sure. They are all very variable and you have to look carefully at each spot, line and marking.

What do you think of Neoalcis californiaria or Protoboarmia porcelaria for this spotting and http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/125... with one being male and one female? from http://www.whereartmeetstheheart.com/dgh...
Geometridae, might be an Iridopsis sp., but I am not sure...
