Pinckneya bracteata

Description:

Large shrub or small tree with rich pink flower petals. Native distribution occurs in FL, GA and SC.

Habitat:

Grows well in low woods, margins of sloughs, swamps and streams.

Notes:

Like many other wetland plants, pinckneya grows in wet areas because it minimizes competition from upland plants. Spotted during Breeding Bird Survey in Valdosta, GA.
