Passerina ciris
Males are stunningly colored with blue heads, red underparts, and green backs. Females and immatures are a uniform, bright yellow-green overall, with a pale eyering. Cornell Labs
These birds were seen at Felt's Audubon Preserve. They can be seen reliably at seed feeders set up near a blind.
This species is nearly threatened due to capture for illegal sale in Mexico & the Caribbean.

Oh — I just realized why I never heard of it. It was established in 2002. We moved up north in 1995. Well, at any rate, I'm glad it's there now! :)
I don't remember going to Felt's Preserve. We often went to Selby Gardens in Sarasota to watch/photograph birds, but I'm not sure I even knew about the existence of Felt's Preserve! It's too bad — I really would have enjoyed that!
Michelle...did you go to the Felt's Preserve when in Bradenton?
And, thanks.
Lovely photo of the two of them together and such a cute video! I live in Indiana now, but it makes me miss my old home in Bradenton! Thank you for posting these!
It's in Eastern Manatee County in Florida. They seem to be regulars. Thanks...it was nice to have both a male & female bathing at the same time.
The video was beautiful. Where exactly is this preserve? Are they still in that area.
Thanks Mary & Armadeus!
I'm so pleased you got to see this beautiful little bird for real! Loved your little video...terribly cute. It's so sad that they are being illegally captured and sold - and for what? Future generations to miss out on? Gorgeous pics. Thank you for sharing :)
So glad I found your pictures of these beautiful birds. I may never get to see one in person. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks Maria...I hope you get to see one too.
Lovely spotting; I hope to see this bird in person some day!
Thanks gatorfellows
very nice capture :)
Thanks so much Sarah!
Love these pictures! So beautiful!
suzmonk...just push that button! I really try to get a short piece of video when I'm taking pictures just to remember the way the bird moves. Sometimes when it's really hard to focus a video manages to bring the subject into focus.
Thank you all for the nice comments...
Spectacular shot!
Wow LOVELY PICTURES!
What a good time they were having! Inspires me to figure out the video feature on my camera ...
wow ! What a treat for us! and how much luckier can you be?!
Hey thanks littelkelani...I thought no one was going to notice these cuties.
