A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
This is either a narrow-brand grass-dart (Ocybadistes flavovittata) or a wide-brand grass-dart (Suniana sunias) skipper butterfly.
Spotted in a large semi-urban yard & garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant forest.

I've narrowed this down in the description but still can't decide which of two species this is.
Hi Bayucca / S Fraizer. Thank you, you guys might be right. I have the same species either and I also agree that it might be misidentified. I hope somebody can help us the exact species :)
Thank You :)
Hello Arvin. Thanks for your suggestion. As bayucca says, the suggested species does not occur in Indonesian New Guinea (aka Papua) but far away in the US; genus restricted to the Americas. I did not find the genus Polites on the Papua list. It is important to consider the range of a species in identification because there is both much visual variability within single species and visual similarity between different species. As far as the link from the Philippines...I would guess it has been misidentified. Maybe it is actually Potanthus sp. Mine too may be this genus. Cheers
Polites mardon is a rare and endangered species of US and not found in Indonesia. But from looking at the margin it is a goof match.
