Astronotus ocellatus
This slate-blue & yellow fish measured about 35 cm.
It was caught by local fishermen in the Tonle Sap lake in Cambodia.
Order Perciformes. Any help for the ID?
Yea, sorry Emilie! When I glanced at the location I saw "Columbia" not Cambodia. And I did a little more looking and found nothing.
I don't think so either, Lanzz. The giant gouramy has very thick lips, and the head is different. The colours don't match either... But I do appreciate your interest, I hope someone finds the right ID;
Thanks for the suggestion, Lucky, but are you sure? As far as I know, Astronotus ocellatus is a South American species, with a more slender body. Also, the Cambodian fish lacks the typical black spot lined with yellow at the base of the caudal fin.
