Psilogramma exigua
This beautiful moth was hidden in plain sight. It is brown all over with black markings around the head and on the wings. At the broad end of the wings it looks like it is scalloped due to the small black and white 'blocks' along the edge.
Chilling on this tree which is next to a road in Derby. Taken on my mobile.
Thank you Ornithoptera80 for the identification and also to Western Australia Museum curator for this further information: apparently it was described in 2010, it’s identify supported in a molecular study in 2014, and it was included in a Max Mould’s big book on hawkmoths in 2020. Ha ha To be fair it was my friend who found it. I wasn't paying any attention to the tree :D
I definitely need new glasses. Fantastic spotting. How did you 'see' it? What camouflage!
