Chilomycterus schoepfi

Description:

This striped burrfish washed ashore near Rehoboth Beach, DE. We placed the fish back in the ocean, although we suspected he washed ashore because something was wrong with him.

Great, thanks for the ID! I thought it was a pufferfish. Silly me.

I caught one of these in Tampa Bay, Florida one time. They have beautiful emerald eyes, a dolphin went for it while i was reeling it in then changed its mind :D

Not sure how or why it got washed ashore but very nice of you to put him back into water.

Does anyone know why the fish would have washed ashore other than it was in distress? I put him back in the ocean but it was probably all for naught. Poor guy.
