Rivula sericealis
It is a species of moth of the family Noctuidae. It is found in Europe. The species closely resembles Evergestis forficalis. The wingspan is 18-22 mm. The length of the forewings is 13-15 mm. The moth flies from May to October depending on the location.
The larvae feed on various grasses, such as False Brome and Purple Moor Grass.
That was definitely right! Supposedly the US species are very uncommon: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/116...
The closest US species is Rivula propinqualis - http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.ed...
thanks for the comments :-)
@J: can you direct me to the similar spotting? perhaps they are related species. That would help me to find the ID.
I've seen a very similar species before. I wonder if yours is the same species, if it occurs natively in North America too.
