Florida Soft-Shelled Turtle

Apalone ferox

Description:

Native aquatic turtle. A very young individual, found scrambling around my backyard. Looks to be recently hatched. I managed to return it to a nearby pond, which is most likely where it was trying to get to in the first place, being one of the only freshwater sites in the area.

Habitat:

Florida and the Southeastern United States. Ponds and lakes are preferred.

Notes:

It took a good *SNAP* at me when I first tried to collect it for relocation. Do be careful with these turtles!
