American Sycamore

Platanus occidentalis

A full grown sycamore tree can reach up to the bombing height of 70-90 feet tall! A single leaf can reach the size of the bottom of your chair! The crown part of the tree stretches to a whopping 175 feet! It has camo-colored bark and is mostly found in urban areas for shade purposes. It has even been the tree of the week in 2012! The most famous tree of this type is the Witness Tree in Valley Forge, PA. It is so old that at the time George Washington passed through Valley Forge, the old tree had been about 16 years old!

Mostly found in urban areas for shade purposes and along streams and rivers.
