A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Insects in this family (Micropezidae) are commonly called stilt-legged flies, after their characteristically long legs. The fore legs are markedly smaller than the other pairs.
Spotted in a village yard. Habitats surrounding village include freshwater swampforest, sago swamp, ocean beach and a forested limestone cliff ridge.
The white-tipped front legs of this species are moved in a most comical or cartoonish fashion, as if the insect is challenging the photographer to engage in fisticuffs with it!
