Brown Pelican

Description:

Spotted Spotted Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos. On the Pacific Ocean they are found from British Columbia to south central Chile, and including the Galapagos Islands. Length up to 1.4 m (4.6 ft), wingspan 2–2.3 m (6.6–7.5 ft), weight 3.6–4.5 kg (7.9–9.9 lb). Smallest pelican; distinguished by brown plumage; feeds by plunge-diving. In adult pelicans, the breast and belly are a blackish-brown and the legs and feet are black. The juvenile is similar but has a brownish gray neck and white underparts.
