Description:

This is the most famous and largest of the rhinoceros beetles. It is native to the newtropical rainforests. The Hercules beetle is consider the strongest animal on earth, being able to carry 850 times its own body weight.

I have hear a lot about this practices, but not sure this happens in Costa Rica...
Years past, people used to collect the horns, cover them with gold and used them as a pendent, but this is not done any more because of the good regulations.

Awesome beetle, I heard people keep them as pets and fight males for money, then breed them in hopes of stronger offspring.
