Crab Apple (with fruit)

Pyrus ioensis

Description:

A little color for the holidays during a cold winter day. The Crab Apple is in the rose family. The development of the fruit results from the thickening of the calyx tube and tip of the supporting axis. The fruits are two inches or less in diameter. The flowers are soft-textured petals in white pink or red. A variety of birds enjoy visiting the tree in winter.
