Yellowjacket Hoverfly

Milesia virginiensis

Description:

This mimic hovers in mid-air, making a truly terrifying buzzing noise. It's actually harmless. Known colloquially as a "good news bee." Supposedly when it hangs there, it's bringing the news. Probably helps if you can speak Fly.

Habitat:

Common in my garden. Not a great deal is known about them, but they are believed to nectar on titi and Rattlesnake Master.

Notes:

I see them frequently, but heck if I can tell what they're eating.
