Bald Eagle Fish Battle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Habitat:

Mississippi River, LaClaire IA Lock and Dam #14

Notes:

Often, multiple bald eagles will take after another that has successfully caught a fish. Here, one mature and a boarder mature/immature take after an individual. In the last two pictures, you can see the fish dropping from the talons in the lower right-hand corner. Right after this sequence, the aggressing mature eagle swooped back down to the water to retrieve the fish.

Thanks Cindy! It is amazing to see and it happens so frequently in these areas, I can step back from the camera and just enjoy watching sometimes.

Nice series! Must have been exciting to see in person.
