Limenitis arthemis arthemis
Quite a common beauty in the North, the White Admiral, Limenitis arthemis arthemis, is scientifically not a subspecies. The three different butterflies are considered "forms" of the species Limenitis arthemis. Characterized by white markings in the same pattern as the unrelated Red Admiral,
Larvae feed on Cherry, Willow, Birch, and various shrubs. Adults will take moisture from mud puddles, rotten fruit and animal feces.
