Bumblebee Mimic Robber Fly

Laphria grossa

Description:

A large bumblebee mimic, either Laphria or Mallaphora. (My bug ID buddies vote for Laphria, based on the spacing between the eyes.) No stinger, but they eat bees and are voracious garden predators.

Habitat:

Perched on a blueberry leaf in my garden, surrounded by mixed woods.
