Velvet Mite

Trombidium (holosericeum?)

Description:

Big and sluggish for a mite. This one is having a meal on a witch hazel leaf. I gather that this is in the order: Trombidiformes, but beyond that I am not sure about the id. I know that they are usually referred to as Velvet Mites, but common names.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trombidifor...

Habitat:

Diverse woods near a small lake.
