*No spiders or mantis were harmed during the making of this photo.* The spider walked up as I was taking photos and I fully expected the mantis to grab it, I think the spider was seriously trying for the mantis but decided it was best to back off. The spider ambled off without the mantis ever really noticing it. This is one that was taken on one of my night prowls through the yard. I did take a few in situ shots but then offered this weedy stem for it to climb onto and was accepted. It then posed and groomed itself for a good long while...I actually got tired of taking photos ...and I returned it to the plant where it was found.

Thanks Vicki! This little one was very cooperative and unconcerned about me.

I totally LOVE these photos! Praying Manthis's are one of my favorites! I love the curious look on their little faces. Those huge eyes look cross eyed, and they have such innocent looks.
