Abert's Towhee

Melozone aberti

Description:

A large, drab towhee. Spotted at the Phoenix zoo, outside the capybara enclosure.

Notes:

Many wild birds are attracted to the combination of cover and open water available at the Phoenix zoo. I had been trying to get a good photo of something inside a cage and hadn't moved for a few minute when the towhee came out from under the bushes.
