NICE FIND and pic's! You have a confirmation of T. resh in MISSISSIPPI!!!

We have long suspected that the cicada T. resh crosses into extreme southern Mississippi. Although it has been heard (reported based on call) in that area it has not yet been collected for confirmation. This species is very common to your immediate west - in Louisiana (incl. New Orleans) & e. Texas. Most literature suggest the range for this species stops just west of Mississippi in extreme eastern LA.

Please compare your cicada T. resh (http://bugguide.net/node/view/138784) with T. pruinosus (http://bugguide.net/node/view/6967). Note the pronotum of T resh has the a marking similar to the Hebrew letter resh "ר" --- while the pattern on the pronotum of pruinosus looks more like a "V" or sometimes described as a Roman numeral 5 = "V".
