Western Smooth Earth snake

Virginia valeriae elegans.

Description:

Gray upper body and Whitish tan belly with round pupils.

Habitat:

Found in Highridge Missouri

Notes:

One of my neighbors brought the snake by this afternoon and I took it in though I cannot ID the species. I believe it to be a common grey snake or garter snake but still I'm not sure. the snake looks really banged up some scales are pointing upwards as well as what looks to be bite marks
