Florida box tortoise

Habitat:

spotted in rain-swollen stream at edge of hammock area

Notes:

When I first saw the movement in the stream, I thought it might be a snake. Then I supposed that the tortoise was simply fording the stream into the hammock. But it made no attempt to leave the water and continued on down the stream, eventually disappearing in the muck. A behavior I hadn't seen before.
