Barred Owl (male)

Strix varia

Description:

This Barred Owl nests in our yard. The only reason I know it is a male is because I have observed him for about seven years.

Habitat:

Pine Flatwood

Notes:

During the nesting season (mid-January to mid-March) we see them every day. We also have cameras in the nest box, as well as a video view of approach to the box. This photo was shot in the non-nest season. They visit our yard on a non-regular basis. They used to me and my camera. Sometimes they don't bother to even look toward the camera. I am boring to them, and i like that. Our Site is http://OwlWatch.org
