Northern Spring Salamander

Gyrinophilus p. porphyriticus

Description:

Lungless salamanders that are typically brown, reddish, or tan with a mottled pattern. Adults are five to seven inches long. Most have a light colored line running from the eye to the nostril. Spring salamanders may secrete a substance that is toxic to some animals.

Notes:

This one was missing the end of it's tail, but it appeared to be healing just fine. Found sitting at the edge of the creek.
