Indian Paint Brush

Castilleja

Description:

The beautiful red wild flower stands out as a bright red blaze in the meadow. The flower is edible but the leaves and roots can be toxic. It has similar health benefits to eating garlic. It can also be used to make hair full and shiny.

Habitat:

This one was found in a meadow near Lily Pad Lake at Anthony Lakes in the Wallowa Whitman National Forest of the Blue Mountain Range in eastern Oregon.

Notes:

My grandfather's favorite wildflower.

I've never seen pink Indian Paintbrush, nor did I know it was edible.
