This caterpillar plays dead so convincingly. It was on a potted plant. (photo 1). Only the frass and nibbled leaves gave it away so well did it blend with the stem. When I tried to photograph it, it fell to the ground and played dead (photo 2) and when I placed the leaves near it ....it went home happily (photos 3, 4 and 5)
My rooftop terrace. On a potted Euphorbia milii or Crown of thorns/ Christ plant.
Had heard about the Hognose snake and paying possum idiom....this one is in the same league.
Thank you, ornithoptera80...I willcheck.
I think the caterpillar has formed a loose cocoon between two leaves. If only I am around when it emerges!!!
the end of the caterpillar matches the markings
