Lovely little tortoise beetle measuring about 3/8" in diameter

Habitat:

At the foot hills of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano about 500 meter elevation. Tropical wetforest.

Thank you Luis! It was a handheld macro shot...one foot was 8" deep in the mud and the other foot on top of a log full of very large bullet ants. One of the ants got me good, caused me to leap, and the mud sucked my shoe off! I got the shoe back and high-tailed it out of there!
